Day 117
September 6 - 123km (Walsh, ALBERTA!)
Today was an exciting day because I was entering Alberta! It was my ninth province, and it meant I was getting closer to Banff which was the portion of the trip I am really excited to bike. While the Prairies have had their charm, the scenery has gotten quite repetitive.
After a long day of biking, I reached the Belly Acre’s Motorcycle Campground and met the owners Chris and Laurie. They were really nice! They fed me some fruits and veggies after seeing that I was having a bag of chips for dinner. While I was eating inside, a Hutterite couple came to join us.
I had never met a Hutterite, so I learned a lot about their culture, way of life and how they lived in a colony. Hans, one of the Hutterites, was a hilarious guy. He kept giving us jokes and riddles to laugh at.
Again, it was one of those surreal moments where I was sitting inside someone’s home that I had never met before, exchanging jokes with Hutterites. I think the fact that I seamlessly fit in made the experience that much more memorable.
Chris, Laurie, Hans and company: thank you for a great night!
