Day 83

August 3 - 52km (Walford)

I was going to make up for my previous weakness - in retrospect, it was understandable why I was feeling this way, but in the moment, I felt like I was failing myself. I began my foray onto the 17, but it wasn’t too bad. Thanks to Scott, I was able to find a relatively safe route up until Sault Ste. Marie. The small stretches that I was on the highway, I could see the poor quality of the shoulder - and it was only going to get worse from there. Much, much worse.

I got caught in another bad thunderstorm again. I was literally in the middle of nowhere, so I had no option but to keep biking. When I finally came across a restaurant/motel, I was torn. I had only biked 50km, and I NEEDED to do more, but it wouldn’t be safe. I didn’t mind biking through the pouring rain, but the lightning was an issue. Eventually, logic prevailed once more and I got a room. It wouldn’t be safe to camp outside, and I was frustrated.
