Day 76
July 27 - 101km (Orangeville)
I was preparing to leave home, but this was actually not the last I would be seeing of my friends and family. I would be joining my friends at a cottage near Sauble Beach, and then be seeing my family in Tobermory where they would be visiting.
After my break in Maine, I came to the realization that the first few days afterwards were the most difficult - obviously in a physical aspect, as my body had lost its familiarity with the exercise, but especially mentally: I felt like I was becoming soft.
It was a hot day and it was getting dark. I told myself I would be hitting 100km no matter what. Well, at 99km I came across a property that looked like an ideal campsite - but I hadn’t reached my distance quota. I biked another kilometre or so, but there was nowhere to camp. Everywhere was private property - I knocked on a couple doors to ask to camp on their lawn, but got no replies. Eventually, I headed back to the farm/motel that I saw earlier to ask to camp on their lawn. I was satisfied in doing so, because now, I had hit my 100km quota.
Yes, I know I’m stubborn.
