Day 104

August 24 - 139km (Brandon)

I had a Warmshowers host in Brandon - I just had to make it there. The wind picked up heavily later in the day, and there was a moment where I doubted if I would make it to Brandon.

At this point, I had become heavily acquainted with the wind of the Prairies. This was probably the most frustrating element I had faced on the trip. Everything else was predictable: the mosquitoes came out at sunset, the hills remained constant and I knew what the temperature was going to be. But the wind… I’m not proud of how angry I got with the wind. The best way to describe it is getting slapped in the face. When you try to bike forward, it’s like getting slapped a thousand times more. It helped to remind myself that I signed up for this.

It didn’t help that I ran into bike issues as I got into Brandon. My rear wheel began to wobble intensely, and I knew I had to get it checked out. But first, I needed to reach my Warmshowers host, Art. He had a bed and a shower waiting for me.
