Day 36

June 17 - 34km (Rothesay)

My host Petros was an interesting guy who built bikes and had touring experience. We didn’t have too much time to talk because he went to sleep early, but he left me some Cliff bars and tools to maintain my bike. However, all I could think about was eating, showering and sleeping.

When I woke up in the morning, I was determined to make solid distance despite pushing myself yesterday. As soon as I encountered my first hill, my legs were already burning. “The hardest part is always starting”, I told myself, but no. The entire day was the hardest part.

I biked 17km and made it to a Tim’s. My legs were gone. I thought that with some food in my belly, I would be able to keep on going, but my energy was gone. Petros, while driving, had seen my bike parked outside the Tim’s and asked if everything was okay. I told him that I was gassed, and he offered his place for another night.

It took about an hour and a half to get back, and it was really cold and wet. When I eventually arrived, I took a nice, warm shower. After talking to Petros, it made sense to take a proper rest day tomorrow.
