Day 2
May 14 - 48km
This day was absolutely crazy. Google Maps took me on the Newfoundland T’Railway, and the first 20km were honestly a breeze. It was flat, and the trees blocked a lot of the wind. What I would soon learn, however, was that this transitioned into an ATV trail and was unbikeable for large stretches. I had to walk large parts of the trail, and when I was biking, the wind was incredibly strong. It was a stop-and-go experience once again.
It was getting dark and my phone was at 1%. My body was shutting down and I knew I was pushing too hard, but I had nowhere to go but forwards. Finally, at around 9pm, I saw the red letters of Tim Hortons. I could charge my phone and eat.
I decided to get a motel because it was 10pm and I didn’t want to deal with finding a place to camp in the dark. The first two motels I went to: closed. Okay, no big deal. I found another motel about 15 minutes by bike, and when I rang the doorbell, all the talking I heard inside went silent. I called their number and a lady picked up, absolutely terrified. “What are you here for?,” she asked. She eventually said she had a room, but the vibes were so weird that I just decided to camp. At 11:30, I found a park and crashed.
