Day 17
May 29 - 91km (Cornerbrook)
I intended to wake up at 8am and get on the road as soon as possible, but because I had a disturbed sleep the night before, I snoozed my alarm for two hours.
I headed to the restaurant and got some food. I met two guys from the UK who were riding their motorcycles from Newfoundland to BC, and then eventually Alaska. They had a Facebook page called Teapot Travels.
I bought some thick gloves from the convenience store; my hands have been the only part of my body really struggling with the cold, so it was worth the investment.
Today was a really beautiful day for riding. The clouds were clearing up and the sunlight made the cycling very memorable. It was pretty hilly, which at this point I was quite used to, and I was making good progress. Day by day, I was getting more confident and I was nearing Corner Brook.
I got a text from Lynn, Joy’s sister who had a room for me, to meet right outside Corner Brook. There was a gigantic hill that would take some time to ride, and then another massive hill to get to Lynn’s place. I would eventually have to bike through the Corner Brook hills, but Lynn came all the way to pick me up so I wouldn’t have to bike in the dark (I would eventually be returning to bike it). Thank you so much Lynn (and Charlie)!
After setting down my bags, taking a shower and freshening up, Lynn had prepared a delicious dinner for me. She was an amazing cook. After talking for a bit, she headed off to bed while I watched the basketball game on TV.
