Day 131
September 20 - 154km (Revelstoke)
I woke up, and it was again freezing. After saying goodbye to my hosts, I headed out. I made sure to go to the exact point where the construction site started - this would be technically the longest possible distance I would be allowed to bike.
A construction worker was about to stop me, but I quickly told her all I wanted to do was touch the pylon. She looked confused. How could I explain it? I was biking across Canada and I needed to make sure I biked every inch, and since I got a ride across the site yesterday I needed to start at this exact point? It seemed like too much to say. Instead, I simply told her it was a superstitious thing. She still looked confused as I biked off.
Today involved some heavy biking. There was a segment called Roger’s Pass, and it was about a 15km climb with some serious elevation gain - I think it may have been the toughest climb on the trip so far! I was huffing and puffing, but I eventually reached the top of the summit and thought I can definitely do a lot more than that. I had become addicted to the challenge of a tough climb - every time I see a hill, I get excited to completely dominate it.
The last 75km of the ride was downhill so I was zooming, but it was still tough. I did not eat enough food today so my body was shutting down. Note to self: I need to eat more than cookies and Twizzlers when biking 154km with heavy climbs. I eventually reached Revelstoke. After finding a cheap motel (and coming across a furry friend), I jumped into bed and slept.
